When Toono moves from Tokyo to Mori Moori Private School, he makes Yaguchi his only friend. Despite his dislike for sports, he joins the photography club, known as the "Yarichin Bitch Club" for its colorful seniors. Almost immediately, Toono meets newcomer Kajima, who is unphased by the presence of the "Yarichin Bitch Club." Yaguchi and Toono's friendship blossoms into a complex relationship between the two.
In the short-lived anime, a character called Yuuichi enters a "friendship game" with a group of friends in order to pay off a massive debt. The characters have to work together to complete the game, and as they struggle with their relationships, they learn more about themselves and each other. It is in these psychological games that Yuuichi and his friends will begin to discover the true meaning of friendship.
In the first volume of the manga, the title character, Yuuichi, receives mysterious letters asking him to meet up with his friends. Yuuichi and his friends go to the meeting point, but are ambushed and knocked unconscious. When they wake up, they are joined by a mysterious character named Manabu-kun, a mascot from a canceled children's TV show. Manabu-kun then requires the group to play a survival game, and tells them that one of them is a traitor.
Yuuichi, in turn, considers betraying his friends but then realizes that he cannot betray his group for Yutori. However, Manabu-kun, meanwhile, does not let Yuuichi off the hook by being a bad friend. The two end up playing a "friendship game" and becoming friends.
The novel opens with a scene where Yuuichi is attempting to save money for a high school trip. However, after collecting the money from his class, the money disappears. Suspicion quickly falls on two of Yuuichi's friends, but the mystery is still a mystery. Yuuichi, meanwhile, continues to save up for the trip despite his circumstances.
As the characters in the manga, Yuuichi and Manabu-Kun are destined to meet. Their friendship will be tested when they encounter a dangerous situation where the two lose their innocence. In order to save their friendship, Manabu-kun and Yuuichi must overcome a challenge and win the "friendship game."
In the first episode of Yuuichi's B Club, the main character tries to save his sister from being attacked by Manabu. Kiyotaka intervenes, and Manabu is forced to release Suzune after the latter asks him not to get involved. While Manabu is trying to attack him, Kiyotaka avoids his strikes and asks him if he is studying martial arts. After a brief scuffle, Manabu leaves.
The next episode introduces the next sport in Tomodachi Recreation. Yuuichi joins the team, and the two men meet and play in a sport together. Sawargi and Mikasa are not sure whether they are teammates, and Yuuichi is suspicious of him. The two are secretly communicating, but Mikasa overhears the conversation and tries to save Yuuichi.
The two first meet at the school's sports club and quickly get close. They have a lot in common, but they both share a deep love for cycling. Manami is part of the student council and seems to trust his staff, but he is a little wary of erotic writing. Manabu is hesitant to trust him because she is afraid of getting hurt, but she ends up relying on him and their bond.
Another close friend, Manabu, is a junior at Sohoku High. He is a member of the bicycle club, and is a climber. He and Aoyagi are teammates, and Imaizumi work together as a duo. Teshima has an outgoing personality and a love for his teammates. He is also very good at reading people's minds, and often reads what they're thinking even when they don't speak.
As the second main character, Naruko is a first-year high school student in Osaka. She is a member of the Sohoku High Bicycle Team and is a very competitive sprinter. She refers to her mentor as "old man" and has a friendly rivalry with Imaizumi. Both mentor their students and support Manabu in his sports endeavors.
While a major role is given to a girl, the other characters are fairly uninteresting. Fon, the tiny young man, is slightly better, as he struggles to overcome bullying. Another well-written character is the young nun, although she's not a main player in the story. However, she does provide a good storyline.
The first season of this anime follows Yuuichi as he gets closer to the young girl. His intense love for Yui grows with each episode, and he feels an overwhelming need to protect her. Although he is eager to learn the skills of fighting, he is also determined to protect his friends. As their relationship develops, Yui must also learn how to protect herself from a violent situation, especially from the men in the town.
While Ayu is destined to become an orphan, she still needs a friend, and she is connected to Yuuichi through her need for comfort. Her mother passed away, leaving her as an orphan, and Yuuichi feels that Ayu needs to find a friend. Through their small talk, playtime, and other interactions, Yuuichi begins to show his devotion to Ayu.
While Yuuichi has a reputation for not dating, he is constantly receiving kokuhaku from girls. Although his rejections aren't surprising, he seems to have a lot of pressure from his friends to date Wakaba. However, Yuuichi's subconscious attraction towards older women keeps him from making the decision to date Wakaba. As a result, he is very indecisive when it comes to women.
At first, Yuichi and Mishio meet on the same day after Makoto drops Piro off a bridge. He asks Mishio how she knew Makoto was at Monomi Hill, and she gives him hints about Makoto's past, which he doesn't fully understand. Mishio disappears before Yuichi has a chance to learn more about Makoto's past. Mishio rejects his proposal, but eventually accepts Yuichi's friendship.
The manga and anime also portray Yuuichi's relationship with Ayu as one of his most difficult ones to figure out. While many characters in this manga and anime find the relationship with their beloveds very difficult, Mikoto is the closest to Yuuichi. As the most mature of the Yamashiro sisters, she shows a deep affection for Yuuichi. While many people find Yuuichi's relationship with Ayu difficult to understand, her enduring love for him is well worth the effort.
However, when Nayuki confesses her love for him, he does it to make her feel important. This explains his desire to please her importance to him. Nayuki is also a good person, but Yuichi doesn't feel that way. But she's a good girl and will make a great wife to someone. She also helps Yuuichi to make the right choices in his life.
Although Yuichi's relationship with Akiko is largely based on their friendship, it is a complex one, with many twists and turns. However, this series does offer an opportunity for both Yuuichi and Akiko to grow as a person. If both of you are able to find the right person, the rest will follow. And while you're at it, you can never know who might be in the other's life.
